About me - Massage & Neuromuscular Therapy

Chris Church is one of the few massage therapists in New Zealand to hold a degree in massage, and also has a diploma in clinical sports massage, a diploma in therapeutic massage, and a certificate in relaxation massage.

As a degree-trained NMT (Neuromuscular Therapy) therapist, Chris also has a broad education in biosciences and is educated in the anatomy and physiology of the nervous, muscular and skeletal systems and in biomechanics.

Massage is starting to come of age in New Zealand, as with other health related modalities massage has now developed degree qualified therapists. This is a trend that is taking place in countries such as Canada and Australia and other countries are also starting to catch on to the benefits of properly training massage therapists as the medical community wakes up to the benefits of massage in general.

Massage is one of the oldest forms of healing known to man and is a natural instinct….what do you do when you knock yourself? You give it a rub, self-massage. If your child falls over and hurts themselves you massage the sore bits, when someone is grieving, you hold them and comfort them, another form of massage.

You may as well be treated by someone who has studied long and hard to ensure that your massage experience one that is suited to your needs and can offer more than just a generic rub.

Due to the extensive training the amount of treatment options available is wide and deep, it is not good enough to look only at the superficial problems but also the underlying causes….these may be obvious i.e. trauma to a muscle during an event or activity, through to the not so obvious i.e. trigger points causing pain in an area not associated with that muscle area.
