Neuromuscular Therapy in Sandringham, Auckland.
Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is a logical, clinical, modern and specialised form of massage therapy. It features a range of soft-tissue diagnostic and therapeutic treatment techniques that involve the skilled manipulation of the soft tissues of the body (muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, nerves and connective tissue) with the aim of normalising activity in these tissues.
A neuromuscular therapist uses manual and diagnostic techniques to gather information regarding areas of soft tissue changes such as altered muscle tone, tissue fibrosis, edema and hypersensitivity. NMT considers any changes in sensations or pain perceptions.
The focus of treatment is;
- Ischemia: A lack of blood supply to muscle in a given area
- Trigger Points: A highly irritable point in skeletal muscle that is painful to touch and refers pain to another area of the body.
- Nerve Entrapment/Compression: Nerves can become compromised due to muscular or bony dysfunctions
- Postural Irregularities: Poor posture or incorrect movement patterns
- Nutrition: Our overall health is governed by what we put into our bodies .
- Emotional Well-being: It is thought that muscle tone can be affected by our emotional health.
